Location: Columbia, SC

Position Overview

The Grants and Proposal Manager is responsible for helping to secure, document, and track corporate, association, foundation, and Federal and State government grants and proposals, contributing to an annual revenue goal of over $3.0 million. This position works in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, working cross-departmentally to ensure alignment and funding of key initiatives.

The Grants and Proposal Manager will work with colleagues to identify needs, research, and develop grant proposals, manage grants including the financial and reporting requirements, and participate in strategic planning to provide funding resources for the future sustainability of services.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding donor records, transactions, data, research, and communications.
  • Conducts on-going research of grant possibilities with yearly pipeline management.
  • Actively identifies, secures, and manages Federal Funding opportunities.
  • Meets regularly with management and program staff to identify funding needs.
  • Maintains up-to-date data on industry-related research for use in writing grants, proposals, and other funding uses.
  • Collaborates with community agencies to secure additional grants to sustain and/or expand operations.
  • Monitors grant-based philanthropic field for trends to plan for future opportunities.
  • Identifies, collects, and drafts client stories for use in grant proposals, publications, and acknowledgment letters.
  • Monitors grant processes and provides gift acknowledgment and stewardship letters, status reports, and evaluations to the funder; meets with grantors to steward their support when appropriate.
  • Oversees the Grant Specialist, partners with Finance to track the allocation and spend-down of grant funds, maintains a tracking system and calendar to ensure deadlines are met, and maintains grant files.
  • Ensures accurate records of grants applied for, received, dollars utilized, etc., and contributes to annual data collection and analysis.
  • Participate in community events, special events, fundraisers, and other related meetings/events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or five (5) years of grant writing experience with secured Federal Grants.
  • Grant writing certification preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, donors, and organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to compose reports and organize information into compelling and articulate presentations.
  • Knowledge of basic evaluation methods and tools.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple deadlines and priorities, identify opportunities, think strategically, and effectively communicate our mission and the experiences of our clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research and read budgets and IRS 990s, analyze information, and interpret complex regulations and guidelines from all types of funders.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the US without current or future sponsorship.
  • Valid driver’s license; occasional travel required (mostly day trips within SC).
