Location: Columbia, SC (onsite)

Position Overview

The Payroll Specialist is crucial to ensuring the accurate administration of the organization’s payroll functions. Primary duties may include, but not be limited to:

  • Validating and Compiling Payroll Data: Calculating and/or reviewing wages, bonuses, and deductions for accuracy based on employee time records, benefits, and tax information. Validating data prior to submitting it to the third-party payroll processing vendor.
  • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, as well as staying updated on changes in legislation.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintaining and updating employee payroll records, including changes in exemptions, job status, and other personal details. Ensuring timely and accurate updates to payroll processing system/vendor.
  • Benefits Administration: Handling various employee benefits related to payroll, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other deductions.
  • Reporting: Generating reports for management, accounting, and auditing purposes. This includes creating financial reports and reconciling discrepancies when needed.
  • Communication: Collaborating with HR, finance, and other departments to resolve payroll-related issues; providing guidance to employees regarding payroll matters.
  • Special Projects: Assisting with special finance and HR projects as needed; other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

The payroll specialist should possess a strong attention to detail, mathematical aptitude, and a good understanding of relevant software and accounting principles. Being organized and able to manage deadlines efficiently is also crucial in this role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of multisite (SC) payroll administration; benefits administration experience is a huge plus.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with experience processing and/or administering payroll for 50+ employees per cycle.
  • Knowledge of payroll software systems.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the US without current or future sponsorship.
