Description
The Teen Outreach Specialist provides outreach and education services to teens exposed to intimate partner violence to help them avoid victimization and make non-violent, positive life choices, and enable them to maximize their potential and live violence-free.
Essential Functions:
- In coordination with leadership, establish and strengthen partnerships with school districts, schools, after-school programs, civic group programs, and faith-based programs.
- Offer programmatic engagement in various in-person settings, including school settings, after-school programs, and through partnerships with other community organizations.
- Provide community outreach and education to teens from violent homes by offering support, mentoring, and guidance to help in breaking the cycle of intimate partner violence.
- Offer support, information, group activities, and special education events for teens residing in the community to help counteract the traumatic effects of exposure to intimate partner violence.
- Educate teens regarding healthy behaviors and relationships and intimate partner violence, to equip them to navigate challenges and choose healthy relationships successfully. Work with teens to develop goals with a focus on non-violent interpersonal relationships.
- Use interactive group discussions, guided presentations, positive adult guidance and support, as well as community involvement and service learning to address dating and intimate partner violence.
- Serve as a liaison to the Organization’s community resources.
- Input direct service and collateral time into the Organization’s client database management system according to the Organization’s policies and procedures.
- Participate in clinical department meetings, agency all-staff meetings, and other special agency committees.
- Attend twelve (12) hours of Victim Service Provider (VSP) approved training each year to maintain active VSP certification.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or other closely related field.
- Knowledge of issues of violence against youth.
- Ability to work closely with diverse populations.
- Computer knowledge, including MS Office proficiency.
- Ability to relate non-judgmentally with individuals with a wide range of problems and challenges, within a cooperative team effort, and handle emergency situations independently.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed, to attend events and meetings.
- Must have a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and appropriate vehicle insurance.
Qualifications and Experience Preferred:
- Minimum two years of direct services with youth, preferably in crisis intervention.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
- The job will be performed in a standard office environment, as well as in schools, parks, sports venues, and other indoor and outdoor facilities with varying degrees of temperature and noise. Travel throughout the Midlands of SC will be required frequently.
- Must be able to remain stationary frequently. The individual in this job will move about an office and other locations to access filing cabinets, office equipment, etc. Frequently operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as calculators, printers, etc. Frequently position themself to maintain files in file cabinets and conduct activities with teens. Consistently communicates information and ideas to others. Must be able to exchange accurate information in a manner others understand. Frequently observes details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). Occasionally move boxes up to 10 pounds across the office for various purposes.
