Job Title: Director of Food Access

Location: Florence, SC or Columbia, SC; onsite

Travel: Mostly day trips across SC; average 2-3 days per week; fleet car is available.

The Director of Food Access orchestrates the relationship between the organization and its external partners, agencies, and networks of collaborative and strategic colleagues in the communities we serve. The Director will monitor the state of civic capital, public policy, equity, service and support systems, and economic opportunity. The position will be the hub of strategic growth in partnerships focusing on gap areas, rural communities, and communities of color. The Director of Food Access is a supervisory position (2-4 direct reports, may vary).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a community ambassador/spokesperson and external liaison to partners.
  • Engages team leaders in tracking and measuring services to member agencies.
  • Executes growth of relationships with current and potential partners to market products and services to expand network capacity, capability, and reach especially as it relates to programmatic functions.
  • Expedites capacity building utilizing nutrition services program efforts and outreach by developing and implementing a strategic vision and metrics for all direct reports.
  • Audits direct reports as to agency compliance, capacity growth, and group structure, as well as other related service initiatives.
  • Monitors the agency application, evaluation, onboarding, and agreement processes for agency and retail partners. Develops SOPs to streamline the onboarding process.
  • Facilitates new agencies in identified gap areas and rural areas and communities where the growth of distribution is needed.
  • Appraises any necessary reporting systems to ensure alignment with our SOPs.
  • Prototypes ongoing improvements in tiered agency matrix.
  • Expands positive relationships with co-workers and ensures cohesiveness in agency relations, retail, and help desk areas across all departments.
  • Empowers and trains direct reports to work effectively and respectfully with partner agencies and maintains ongoing customer service training with team members.
  • Quantifies expectations for staff to increase partner capacity, spending, and services for clients through active problem-solving, innovation, and communication.
  • Coaches direct report to handle complaints professionally, working to find mutually beneficial (win­ win) solutions to problems and challenges.
  • Expands and maintains an effective technology agency training program, including online training, in-person training, and ongoing Help Desk inquiries as needed.
  • Analyzes and authenticates program operational data to identify, plan, and implement process changes to increase agency distribution and capacity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Three+ years of nonprofit development experience or other closely related experience.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with five and six-figure gift-giving programs.
  • Program management and/or strong project management (multiple projects/programs) experience.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
  • Valid driver's license.

This position operates primarily in an office setting within the branch. The position requires sitting at a desk and in meetings for long periods of time and involves extensive computer work with frequent interruptions. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position will regularly be in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures, including freezers and outdoor weather conditions. With forklift traffic in the facility and products stacked and stored throughout, this position requires someone who is mobile and who can hear and watch for traffic and normal hazards of a warehouse environment.
